Boomer wrote: Thu Jan 25, 2018 10:53 pm Actually this is not quite right. The VED calculation is list price plus (£500) delivery plus (£55) first registration fee. (In this very simple case). Either way the current First editions should be below the £40k threshold. Just don’t add any factory extras (if there were any left to add... haha).
Sorry Boomer - £5 out! This is exactly why its complicated. The VED can be calculated as list (or retail) price plus £550 (not £555) which is the cost of delivery, number plates & VAT.

OTR is then the P11D price plus the £555.
Not complicated. Just my bad for not going back to the price list and legislation/support and doing everything from memory (and in rush). Bottom line is that we should be all okay with a currently priced and spec’ed FE.

The legislation is “clear” but hardly anyone goes back to the source, and what we get is poor expert? reporting by the media/industry. It’s not surprising that joe public is then confused.

For an easier to read summary see http://dvla.dft.gov.uk/ved/ved-reform-briefing2.pdf, and specifically page 3.

Hope this helps all.

Hi Bob,

The £1500 deposit contribution is available with PCP and 0% HP finance with the First Edition. Other models only get £500. There is also a free 3 year service plan with the PCP finance.

Cheers
Alistair

No problem. I was surprised they were offering £1500 on a new model.

Indeed - it's a competitive market.

Where does the 0% HP finance element come in?

Thanks Alistair.

I don't want PCP, but the 0% HP option sounds like a no brainer!
I will pop into the local dealers soon and try haggling on price. In the meantime I thought I'd have a look at online options from Drive The Deal, Broadspeed, and CarWow. I've not heard from Broadspeed yet, but Drive The Deal has come up with the best price out of the other two, not much over £35k for a First Edition, with no other extras, including the dealer deposit, however I think that may be an estimate, whether they can achieve that in reality. CarWow is nearly £2k more but that is a firm offer from my local dealer.

It's all very well using on-line brokers, but I need to dispose of my Q3, I've always found it easier to just trade it in. Whilst the brokers can now offer trade-ins it probably will not be as good as what a dealer will offer, so I do need to go and talk with the dealer.

I believe the IAM have discount arrangements with Volvo, as an IAM member this will be another line I'll be following.

I fully agree! While you can't yet build a non First edition model on the website, I got the total for an R-Design Pro plus all the extra FE features at some £4k plus extra over the FE price.
Just found that I could configure an R-Design D4 AWD on the Volvo Ireland website from scratch amd spec it up to my First Edition config. The price came to almost €65,000 which at current exchange rates is around £56,000!
