Brake groan
I had same issue so applied dealer and was told it's normal as all parts were quite new. I also felt tremors when I reach 110 km speed and up. I again applied dealer and was fixed in couple hours by adjusting the front rods and balancing the tires, no any part was changed or replaced. And now... All tremors and groans are gone. Much more comfort I have now...
I have just noticed my car groaning while breaking. Two years old and 31k km
The car just got back from being serviced and needed a new fuel pump recently.
Has anyone found any solution to this issue with their dealerships? I might call them tomorrow to understand.

thank you gtest for information. I have had comfort brake pads fitted to front wheels only and brake groan completely gone. Xc40 now fantastic no faults.
the new brake pads had a anti squeal shim which got rid of the groan. the old standard pads and comfort pads looked same material spec.
the brake numbers you gave me where for your T4 which has 17 inch front discs my T4 has 16 inch.. volvo dealer sent for smaller equivalent.
why did volvo fit noisey pads on xc40 build...?
can somebody from volvo answer the question?

I thought all brake pads had an anti squeal shim that goes behind the pad?

I've read through the threads of this topic with interest, I see that changing brake pads has resolved the groaning issue on the brakes,
However I'm curious at the issue andygou had with the steering creaking when at low speed, I have the same issue, it's not loud and can only be heard if it's quiet, has this issue also been resolved ?
