Ah. What's confusing me is Volvo's reference to a + New Download. I've already downloaded it. What's it means (but doesn't say so) is that the .exe download is run/saved/unpacked/unzipped to the USB.

I'm trying this and getting a progress bar. Clearly the .exe file I downloaded from Volvo is merely some sort of run file and I'm getting the full 2.73 GB download now

This is such an opaque method 🤦🏻‍♂️

This is so slow. I'm on Fibre 900 but at best Volvo is serving up about 8 MB/s.

Still. I'm getting something. And didn't see this routine before, so 🤞🏻

As I've been saying, the original download from the website is not the map, it is a download manager for the map download (and is, I believe, version specific). It is executed on the PC to perform the map download. It's not at all uncommon practice across various brand's similar process.

If you've specified the USB as the destination (your progress bar indicates that the full map download is happening) then the end-product will be a USB stick ready to do the update without any further manipulation.

If you've downloaded to the PC instead , you will need to find and copy the files (the ones shown in one of my previous post) to a USB stick unchanged (i.e. don't unzip them)

The USB stick should contain these (don't worry about the "System Volume Information"):

Cheers Sherwood. This is the first car I've had with built in Nav. All my previous had standalone devices or, in later years, Android Auto for Google Maps and Waze. The only other device I update via USB is the telly - and Samsung's routine is much clearer.

I inserted the USB and got the spinner but had to leave it after 10 mins running. I'll pick it up tomorrow and update here. Assuming it works, I'll do France then so it's fresh in my mind.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

It was somewhere around half an hour on mine (it will pause and restart if you have to leave it) - it informs you when it's finished, and it needs engine off and a couple of minutes to roll the new map in (that ensures you can still navigate using the existing map whilst it's progressing).

My USB stick is formatted to ExFAT, and works every time. If you are using a USB stick, it's recognised practise to use a known brand rather than a cheap Chinese one. Mine is a Kingston...

I only use SanDisk, formatted to FAT32. We'll see today if it's worked. If Volvo require a particular format they should say so. And make their routine a lot clearer.
