When I floor it joining the motorway (mostly) as I reach around 70 there's this faint little 'toot' noise, like someone you've just passed's horn. The misses has noticed this more than me, which considering she's always complaining I've got ears like a bat leads me to think it's more prominent from the passenger seat.

I'm thinking maybe turbo coming off load or something? Anyone else noticed it?

This is caused by the turbo Wastegate operation which keeps the turbo pressure from spiking.

Thanks, thought something along those lines, but never had the noise on my other turbo'd cars. Just a Volvo curiosity then (or maybe just mine?)

On many turbo cars the sound is very noticeable, others not so much. On my T5 XC40 it is not noticeable at all. Could be that my old ears just can't hear it though.
