Volvo On Call / Infotainment interet

Apologies if this has been asked before, I've had a look but can't find it but i have two small questions...

Is it standard that the "infotainment" is connectable to the internet for such apps as Spotify?
To use the Volvo On Call remote starting and internet apps as above does the car need a sim card in?

Thanks and apologies for what may seem a basic question!

You need a sim or hotspot your phone to the car. Volvo on call has its own sim which is covered under the subscription - first three years should be free, but I think some finance companies have it removed for price. On call sim only covers on call.

Many thanks - will question the leasing company that i've ordered from.

Yep, On Call covered by built in SIM - though I know nothing of lease variations. Other apps (Weather, Yelp, Spotify, etc.) you have to provide your own data.

Several ways to do this:

Bluetooth tethering (my choice)
Phone WiFi hotspot
Wingle hotspot
SIM card slot in boot (though I think Volvo have had problems with this at times).

P.S: In-car Spotify is premium account only - you can't use free version.

If you use Carplay, does this automatically use the iPhone data for in-car data? or do you have to set this up separately?

So there is a seperate Sim for the On Call as there is in the boot?

The On Call is a standard feature now, just for anyone else looking so won't be removed by a leasing company.

I think certain leasing companies will remove some of the functionality - they did with my last company car (Mercedes Benz) through Lex Autolease

Yep, the On Call has the SIM in a tamper-proof location somewhere behind the dash I believe. The slot in the boot is completely separate, should you want to use your own data SIM for the apps, map updates, etc.
