Hi all,
I'm new at the forum and i have a 2018 XC40 with sunroof, for about 6 months, and now it's making a weird noise that occurs when rains and only above 80kms/h.
It sounds like plastic vibrating and sometimes like water bubbling in some drain…
It sounds loud enough to be really annoying...
Anyone had the some problem?
Thank you all,

Yep. There’s a couple of references to this on the forum. It annoys the hell out of me on mine. Not only rain but during wind as well. To me it’s as though there’s a problem seal or something.

Sorry to hear about that. My D3R with the panoramic roof is fine.

I have had exactly the same issue no noise at all when car is dry just when wet, very odd, i've checked all seals but cant seem to see anything that would cause it.

Just a thought. Check the winddeflector that is springloaded. Maybe something got stuck underneath it. 🤔

With the lovely weather this weekend I’ve had my roof open for first time in a while.

Anyway, noticed the rivet/screws on the wind deflector are rusted. That isn’t right surely. Also, the roof judders quite wildly when closing.

It’s in next week for the service but won’t lie this is beginning to p me off.

Senwar, I’ve had the exact same problems as you describe, dealer replaced
the runners, seal and glass panel on my sunroof.
My water ingress(rusty screws) was caused by the mesh of the wind deflector
folding the wrong way(towards front of car)on closing and being sandwiched
between seal on glass and seal on the body work on front.
Also check seal outside on roof for misalignment or dips which can let water in,
caused by the shuddering.

Thanks for the info Doug. Very very helpful and I will raise this on Monday next week when the car is in.

Just been out to check and the roof does seem not to be flush on both sides (seems to be raised in middle slightly). Checked the mesh and it closes quite oddly - mesh goes partly to front but the plastic bit does go to rear. Was yours like that?

You could actually see about 2 inches of mesh sticking out between the 2
seals when the roof closed on my car.
Passenger side of my car above front passenger door, the seal was sitting about
2.5mm lower than roofline for about 3 inches. It appeared after it started shuddering
when closing.

Ah right. I’ll keep an eye on it but even the juddering means something isn’t right and as I say I’ll mention what you’ve said too

Thanks.
