Sorry folks posted in a bit of a hurry last night (had a party to go to ;) ) I used fuse space 86 as my temporary feed and 12 as the permanent feed ( see photos), as you can see I used piggy back fuses although the slots were empty as that was what I had available.
I used these to connect to a new fuse box with a ground wire connected to the earthing point on the drivers side foot well. This will give me 6 permanent feeds and 6 switched . Bit of overkill but I am connecting front and rear cameras a SmartNav and a permanent connection to the battery from the boot for a CTEK battery conditioner. I found that after 2 years the battery on the V40 was loosing charge quite badly when not used for a few days and expect the XC40 with even more kit to be even worse.

Had a look in the manual on page 599 for the lay-out of the under seat fuse box:

Manual in pdf: https://az685612.vo.msecnd.net/pdfs/138 ... P25520.pdf

Fuse 86 (page 601 in the manual) would be the fuse for the Alcohol lock, so will be free in most cars. Bou you said in an earlier post
I used one next to the the alcohol lock spot at the top right of the fuse box.
In most cars fuse 85 (control module for driver support functions) and fuse 87 (USB port) are in use. So I suppose it was still 86 you used?

Fuse 11 (page 600 in the manual) is the fuse of the door module in the left hand front door which I think is always occupied. Would it be possible that you used fuse 12 instead? 12 is used for the suspension module, but empty if you don't have the active suspension I suppose.
The road is more important than the destination.

Thanks guys for the definitive information. Very much appreciated. At least I now know where and what to use.
THANKS AGAIN.

Thanks varavital you are correct it was the suspension module slot 12 I used, miscounted on the diagram as the piggyback fuse was covering the fuse 11 slot, I have edited my original post

Thanks for this Wedgie, this is really useful. I've got the active suspension so I'll have to do some testing for an alternative though a switch live might do me fine.

Was the rear seat difficult to remove?! Looks like a right chore!

The rear seat squab was really easy to remove it is just held with spring clips, a firm upwards pull on the front of the seat was all that was needed, it might be a bit more difficult if you have heated rear seats!

Well, gotta hand a massive thanks to Wedgie for doing the ground work on this - the way some stuff goes live as soon as you open the door & some circuits have delayed off after locking doors, it couldn't have been an easy task.

So glad that the 12 & 86 were both unused on my car as, just as I suspected, the correct orientation on this fusebox for piggy-backs is with the tail pointing upwards & there simply isn't the space. I just put two fuses in the piggy-backs (20A bottom, 5A top & all was good.

Anybody who does tap an existing fuse, beware that, if you orientate the piggy-back the 'wrong' way, the load for both circuits will pass through the original fuse. risk is low with a dashcam but it exists nonetheless.

Still haven't got round to this (car still getting fixed), does the fuse box cover go back on OK or is it a squeeze? Sorry if it's been mentioned, my reading comprehension isn't the best at times!

I had trouble at first as I tried to hide some spare cable in there.

If you keep it neat, make sure piggy-backs are pushed fully home, & squeeze #12 tail between relays (see Wedgie's pic), lid goes back on OK.
