Only the offside rhd wired up with a bulb is the near side live if I put a bulb and holder in it, as I feel safer with two especially when driving in France where your on the wrong side of the road. TIA.

Hi Brian. I would be very very very careful before you experiment with anything on the electrics (unless you are a qualified auto-electrician). Modern systems are extremely complex and sensitive. You could easily trigger fault codes and warnings on all manner of unrelated things. Your dealer would no doubt be able to re-set and rectify but it wouldn't be covered by the warranty! 30 years ago I would happily wire in a set of spot lights triggered by a relay from the high beam. Now I would hesitate to even change a battery.

Hi Brian - did you go ahead and put the other fog lamp in? I determined that both sides are active, as I need to move the light from the left to the right for Australia. Now looking at putting both in, but searching for the right globe holder has been difficult. Plenty of VW ones, not sure if they will fit?

Just read on another XC40 forum in regards to fitting athe 2nd fog light. The part number is 8N0953053 its a VW/Audi part number.. going to order one and see if it works. We spend a lot of time in France so a fog light on off side when driving on the right would be a benefit.

A quick google says that’s an indicator bulb holder?

For those spending time on the wrong side of the road this is a good idea. I would not recommend moving to two lights on at a time, the whole reason we went back to a single fog was so it was distinguishable from brake lights

Indeed. In some countries it's illegal to have two rear fog lights.
