I think that if you are going for the plain white body black roof option then this really finishes the vehicle off! The only other option is to go for a boring black carpet option, so you end up with an entirely black and white car.

It certainly makes it unique and like you say, stops it from being boring. Wonder how it will wear?

Hmmmmmm........this is the problem when ordering a vehicle unseen!

Mrs Jim is having second thoughts today, but she needs to make her mind up fairly quickly.

From memory the door paneling and floor carpet are different materials. The flooring very much the usual car carpet type material - so should be as hard wearing as normal car carpeting I suspect/hope!

The door panels are slightly more like a very compressed (and slightly melted) fleece - if you get what I mean (like a hard open felt?) - again feels like it should be hard wearing unless of course you stroke it each and every day. To be honest I'd be less concerned about the door panel inserts as these are probably low impact areas - and the material does feel like its robust.

From our perspective we loved the orange colour (although we are moving from a car that already has door and seat inserts in a brighter colour!). Our concern though was how well the "orange" would hold up in the footwells after extensive use. Work round settled on - we like the orange so added this as option - but will look to fitted black mats to protect the front footwells. Best of both worlds?

Would have been equally nervous. Having seen the real thing - and all the online material (youtube, that 360 view on Volvo website, etc) - the two are pretty comparable so you might get comfort that if you like the pictures you will likley be okay with the real thing?. We took the view that having some color in the cabin was a good thing, and an excellent contrast to the "dull coloured" exterior (which to be honest isn't the best selection ever). I've seen comment that the lava colour is directed at the millenials - disagree - we are at/towards the other end of that scale and it appealed to us - so perhaps Volvo have got it right for both target market.

As an aside the Volvo HQ/sales guy we met said that reactions so far were a bit "marmite" - you either love or hate the lava but that it was about 50:50.

At the end of the day it will only be the driver/passengers who will ever see it on a daily basis - so if you like - well there is your answer.

Sort of adding to my own response - just thought that the door panelling material is very similar to the panelling you get in the side panelling in boot spaces - perhaps just a little "lighter" in feel.

But my memory may be failing me.

Definately not. It has a very plastic/non-natural fibre feel to it. [Don't forget this is Volvo's economy SUV model - cough! - and so "cheaper" materials being used.]
