I think Eco is really unsuitable for UK save for a few days a year. Whenever i tried it the car would mist up in less than 5 minutes due to no air con and high humidity. It happened to me on my 2nd service. The technician came out saying they have to roll back the software and reattempt an update. It took another 45 minutes to an hour to get fixed.
Though yours sounds a lot more serious so might have been caused by something else
