Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

Test drive tomorrow with the Volvo UK tech. Sounds like he is bringing his vibration monitoring gear again, but this time to compare the latest ‘problem resolved’ levels with his initial ‘out of spec’ findings. I should have plenty of time for questions, and to ask him about how prevalent the proble...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

The 90 mile trip turned out to be wet all the way, so I thought the vibration was gong to be hard to pick up on, but this was not the case. The audible resonance sensation is almost gone, but the ‘shuddering’ feel through the body was present 65 to 77MPH for nearly all of the journey (traffic permit...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

A quick reply to alanlaughton, and a first assessment of the ‘fixed’ problem… I would definitely not call it a rattle as such… but best described as thrumming / shuddering / resonance / an almost inaudible vibration… the sort of thing you get if you have left a window down a couple of millimetres (m...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

It’s that time again… Call from the dealership today to say that they have fitted the two new wheels and tyres on the front… and this has cured the problem! I have reminded them that when I dropped it off (several weeks ago), I stated that I would be reluctant to take it back on a ‘see how it goes’ ...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

Thanks for your thoughts Kipper! As I’ve mentioned recently, every XC40 I have driven has exhibited the resonance issue to some extent. That includes AWD models but mainly FWDs. Even the XC60 had it there… but very very distant in the background (although it was on 21” wheels… probably the worst opt...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

An update from the dealership… As I had guessed, the ‘unbalanceable’ wheel was all OK with a new tyre fitted. Prudently, this time it was taken by Mark (the Volvo UK tech) on the 190 mile round trip… so he could experience the results first hand… and guess what… no better! His next step is to try di...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

Fair enough! We ran a couple of Passat estates (excellent work horses, but my other half broke both of them) before we went people (parents) carrier (VW Touran x 2) and then finally SUV (Yeti, Yeti, XC40). I can see on the app that our car is still sat there at the dealership and has not moved since...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

Kipper... Don't worry... I'm retired now... slippers permanently fitted (but no pipe). For info, SLKs can also happily do 'pipe and slippers' (that's why I liked it so much... and many reviewers do not)... but come with the option to... at the same time... get a little wind in your hair (if you are ...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

Hello Gnomeface… similar car taste, but bet you never owned a Smart Roadster! Had one from new for 11years… best car I ever owned.. only let down by the rusting underpinnings and water leaks. Had it re-mapped to 115BHP, which when you consider it only weighed 780Kg was not so shabby power / weight r...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph

Just about with you on every comment Kipper! Teslas are great cars if you ignore the initial purchase cost, high insurance, premium car road tax, next to no dealerships, aluminium bodywork (needs specialist repair shops), parts availability and so on. Hope I did not upset anyone when I mentioned Aud...
