Re: Premium petrol issue

Thanks – I’ve just checked my cars electronic handbook and it says exactly that. From memory when the car was new, I think the wording of the handbook put more emphasis on 98 octane being preferred and 95 octane being acceptable when 98 not available. I’m honestly not sure if my memory is failing me...

Premium petrol issue

Hi I have a nine month old recharge T5 Phev. As per the handbook, I have religiously run it on premium grade petrol, usually Tesco momentum but occasionally forking out the exorbitant cost of BP or shell. Now that 95 octane E10 petrol is being introduced, I really would like to use that on both envi...

Re: Does anyone still watch Top Gear?

Is there a new series?

They should keep Chris Harris, bring back Rory and Sabine, and get rid of the cricketer and the comedian. The latter two are nice blokes but have no place in a car show.

Re: Towbar electrics battery top up

No idea, but if the tow bar socket has a permanent live supply (normally pin 9 positive, pin 13 negative) I see no reason why it shouldn’t be used to charge the battery, as long as the charger’s maximum current is less than the rating of the fuse on that circuit. If you wire your battery charger’s l...

Re: Which options / packs are a must?

We had the surround camera on our first XC 40, and my wife loved it to the extent of insisting we absolutely must have it on that the second XC 40, but for the 2021 model year it was only available as part of the lounge pack. Accordingly we also ended up with a sunroof and upgraded stereo system tha...

Re: XC40 EV Charging

Yes. i’ve got both cables. I use the three pin one all the time and have only used the type 2 cable a couple of times at public charging points, which honestly are more trouble than they are worth on most occasions.

Re: Owners opinions on T5 Recharge PHEV

I think you can still set a timer to precondition the car. If you can access the wiring to your outdoor socket inside the house, insert a timer and set it midnight to 7am the socket will then be powered up for charge and precondition. If you leave home at 4.45 you might need to start around 11pm to ...

Re: Owners opinions on T5 Recharge PHEV

Hi tech57, take a look at https://www.xc40forums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2385 page 2 of the thread regarding charge timer glitch- my first PHEV suffered causing me to reject the car. The workaround is to set a timer on the socket or wall box that you plug in to, but Volvo have promised a fix ...

Re: Serious safety incident – Volvo XC40 recharge

Goodness! You didn’t say in your first post that you have been at stalemate for three months. You’ve probably checked the consumer law – if a car has a very serious fault in the first month that you have it, you are entitled to reject it and have a refund. As always the complicating factor is gettin...
