DNS is working from the phone, but this does not necessarily mean DNS is working from the car via the phone hotspot. As I mentioned already tethering ALL other devices via my phone works fine so this is not a network provider issue. Also my wifes earlier generation Pixel phone is on the same network...

I can ping the cars IP address OK from my phone using some network tools installed on my phone. It looks like its a network DNS issue to me.
