Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
Davis, I thought it had been sorted as the forum had been very quiet. I suspect Volvo have no idea how to solve the problem, it seems to be associated with the AWD system. I had the prop shaft replaced, which reduced it a bit, and a couple of items to do with the clutch assembly for the rear diff. T...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
Ah, of course. I am built for comfort not speed these days, it's there when I need it, but in general smoooooth is the way forward. It's the way of cars these days, when it thinks you need extra, it supplies it, but on its terms. When I bought an V40 a few years ago, I commented on the lack of a tem...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
Dermottog, You are correct, the AWD is used to describe a system that has drive available to all 4 wheels but only has the front wheels connected in normal circumstances. When traction at the front wheels is detected as slipping, for example on ice or snow, then varying degrees of drive is applied t...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
eugen61, The early days covered a lot of suggestions including balancing of wheels. In general there seemed to be no common denominator with respect to tyre and wheel size combinations. I was told by a nephew who is a vehicle dynamics specialist that it could just be various components at the limit ...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
Traveloguy, Not sure it is the same issue. I did a lot of measuring of the vibration and although not scientific, I was convinced it was caused by an imbalance somewhere in the chassis or running gear in the rear of the vehicle. Very much like a wheel balance issue. However, with the lack of recent ...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
Well by the lack of posts it seems the problem might have gone away, or the owners have through lack of interest from Volvo. Well I have solved the problem. I changed to a B4 FWD. I decided that as Volvo were either uninterested or unable to solve the problem, I would change and avoid the AWD system...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
Snico, Very interesting, I'm sure that your comment on on the sensitivity of the running gear is correct, whether it is the tyres, I'm not so sure. I was meaning to comment on my recent trip but am ashamed to say I never got round to it, partly because it was inconclusive. That the vibration has red...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
Mattgestic, The forum has gone very quiet on the subject, which would suggest that Volvo are getting on top of the problem. In my case, they have changed the prop shaft and the clutch on the rear diff plus the damper unit (I think). Then COVID hit and my driving has been limited to local driving whi...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
A good debate to be had no doubt, not the place to have it really I agree, except to say I agree if the will is there, technology seems to have a way. Before quoting Norway as an example remember, their population (5M), road infrastructure and surplus of hydro electric power. However, as a model, th...

Re: Vibrations @55-80mph
My wife's step Brother in law (is there such a thing?) is a senior test engineer and drives a Tesler model x or something, big car, £80k. He loves it and says it's just a matter of planning your trips. He journeys from Derby to Bristol from time to time a journey of some 240 miles or so (around that...
