I've had the same issue (XC40 D4 Inscription)) - Three failed remote keys in 18 months. But always cured by fitting a new battery. I'm now in the habit of keeping a spare battery in the car, knowing that my Volvo 'phone app will get me into the car if I've been locked out due to remote key failure. ...

Do you mean the clear plastic clip that comes out of the pillar just above the top of the dash? I've only got one on the driver's side but assumed it was for keeping your parking tickets in place. My previous car (Saab) had one and I found it a very simple but very useful feature!
