Re: Double-tap gearshift

It's probably just me getting gradually older and grumpier, but I think too many manufacturers think there is a need to be 'different' even if it's not actually better. My Range Rover (and I think probably all JLR autos) has a rotary controller to make the appropriate selection. After 3 years I stil...

Re: Brakes

The brakes on my T4 Inscription Pro did seem a bit sharp and grabby at first but I think this was just newness and it soon wore off. They are now just like the brakes on any modern car, powerful but lacking some of the feel you used to get in days of yore...

Re: XC40 suitable for tall and small drivers?

Hi Tom My wife and I are near identical heights to you and can both get very comfortable driving positions with good visibility. The glass roof still leaves plenty of headroom for me. Ours is an auto so I cannot comment on clutch operation if relevant to you. The 360 degree camera option also works ...

Re: Cool or tacky...?

Pointless indeed. But so is anything purely cosmetic such as badges to denote spec level or paying extra for a different wheel design. If you like it, that's the only answer you need...

Re: XC-40 performance in heavy snow

For what it's worth, the owners' manual states that off-road mode is not designed to be used on public roads. The manual also makes no reference to this mode being appropriate for snow and ice, stating only that it maximises traction in difficult terrain and on poor roads. From a very brief experime...

Re: Poll: Lead times ( from order till delivery)

Lead times do seem a bit random. Mine was ordered mid August 2018 with estimated delivery 1 June 2019. Settled in for a long wait, then in late November 2018 got a call to say arriving in a few days! It may be that some trim level/engine combinations are quicker than others. My dealer had no specifi...

There is a thread on this forum under 'Driving in Europe' which pretty much confirms that no adjustment is required

Re: Rear fog light

Hi Brian. I would be very very very careful before you experiment with anything on the electrics (unless you are a qualified auto-electrician). Modern systems are extremely complex and sensitive. You could easily trigger fault codes and warnings on all manner of unrelated things. Your dealer would n...

Re: GAP Insurance

My insurance company (Saga - most of you are probably too young to qualify!) gives 'new for old' up to 2 years but only up to 12,000 miles.

Re: Recommend Me A Detailer Please

Hi Raj. I'm not in your area but I found an excellent guy near me via the 'Professional Valeters and Detailers Trade Association' (I have no connection with them). Their website is a useful source of general information and guidance in this area. Be warned though! It's easy to get sucked into the wo...
